On Thursday, June 5, 2025, representatives of the Centre for Metabolomics in Food and Nutrition at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, prof. dr. Nataša Poklar Ulrih, participated in the 32nd Bitenčevi Food Days held at the Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana.

The event, organized by the DepartAs part of the ERA Chair Foodomics initiative (Horizon Europe, GA-101186975), representatives from the Centre for Metabolomics in Food and Nutrition, Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, will participate in the 32nd Bitenčevi Food Days on June 5, 2025, at the Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana. This event, organized by the Department of Food Science, will focus on food production, processing, and sustainability.

ERA Chair Foodomics, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Urška Vrhovšek, will present the ongoing research and future goals of the Centre for Food and Nutrition Metabolomics. This centre, set to launch by the end of the ERA Chair Foodomics project in 2030, aims to become a leading research and education hub in the field of food, health, and nutrition metabolomics.

The ERA Chair Foodomics project will involve the employment of an international research team, the organization of workshops and scientific events, and the establishment of a new study program in metabolomics and related fields.

This event will provide an excellent platform for exchanging knowledge and strengthening collaboration between academia, industry, and stakeholders in the agri-food sector.ment of Food Science at the Biotechnical Faculty, gathered numerous experts in the fields of food science, nutrition, and sustainable food systems. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and technologies in food production, processing, preservation, and packaging, as well as to discuss the future of sustainable food systems.

As part of the ERA Chair Foodomics initiative, which aims to establish the Centre for Food and Nutrition Metabolomics at the Biotechnical Faculty, Prof. Dr. Urška Vrhovšek presented our project and the broader vision of the center, which will become a national and international leading research hub in the field of food, health, and nutrition metabolomics by 2030. Within the first five years of the ERA Chair Foodomics project, the center will:

  • Employ an international team of researchers,

  • Organize scientific events, workshops, conferences, and summer schools,

  • Build foundational infrastructure and expertise,

  • Actively contribute to the development of a new study program offering high-quality education and training in metabolomics and related disciplines.

The project aims to foster research excellence, innovation in food science and public health, and strengthen collaborations between academia and industry. Events like Bitenčevi Food Days provide important opportunities for knowledge exchange and the creation of new partnerships and collaborations that will have a long-lasting impact on the sustainable future of food systems.
