Sébastien Roca is an Assistant Doctor at the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, where he will be joining the ERA Chair Foodomics project starting March 1st, 2026.
Dr. Sébastien Roca is a specialist in biomolecular engineering with a focus on analytical techniques and the development of advanced methods for the characterization of chemical compounds. After completing his PhD in Biomolecular Engineering at the Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron (IBBM) in Montpellier, France, and his first postdoctoral research on historical dye synthesis, LC-MS analysis, and fast aging studies, he is currently seeking a new postdoctoral opportunity.
Research Background and Achievements
Throughout his academic journey, Dr. Sébastien Roca has developed extensive expertise in various analytical techniques, including Gas Chromatography (with micro-GC columns), Capillary Electrophoresis, Taylor Dispersion Analysis, Steric Exclusion Chromatography, and the latest High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) methods coupled with UV-visible detection and Mass Spectrometry.
His research work includes the analysis of the chemical composition of synthesized colorants (HPLC-DAD-MS), where he successfully established a correlation between chemical composition and observed color using PLS regression analysis in RStudio. This approach was applied to a dataset containing over 700 entries.
Dr. Sébastien Roca has also worked on non-invasive pigment analysis of 11th-century manuscripts and solid-liquid pigment extraction for HPLC-DAD-MS characterization. His portfolio also includes significant statistical approaches, such as PCA and PLS regression, for data processing and the development of new protocols for Taylor Dispersion Analysis (TDA).
Teaching and Mentoring Experience
In addition to his research activities, Dr. [Name and Surname] has gained valuable experience in teaching and mentoring. As a coordinator of practical classes, he has worked with various student cohorts, including those conducting research for their degree theses. His mentoring experience also includes supervising two interns, which allowed him to further develop his pedagogical and mentoring skills.
Publications and Scientific Contributions
Dr. Sébastien Roca is the author of several scientific papers published in international journals such as Analytical Chemistry, ChemPlusChem, and Journal of Chromatography A. His contributions have advanced the development of new methods for the analysis and characterization of biomolecular systems.
His research includes a wide range of methods, from NMR and Raman spectroscopy to advanced computational techniques in RStudio, enabling the analysis of large datasets and the creation of accurate predictions regarding chemical properties.
Personal Vision
Dr. Sébastien Roca aims to continue his career in an international environment and has a long-term goal of becoming an associate professor in France. He believes that gaining international experience is a crucial step toward achieving this ambition.
He would be delighted to contribute his knowledge, enthusiasm, and collaborative spirit to new research projects and looks forward to the possibility of further collaboration.
