Metabolomics Methodologies Workshop 2026
The workshop is designed to provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in modern metabolomics and lipidomics methodologies, with a particular focus on mass spectrometry-based approaches and their applications in biological, clinical, plant, and food research.
The three-day program combines keynote lectures, expert presentations, laboratory demonstrations, and hands-on workshops led by internationally recognized researchers from academic institutions and industry. Participants will gain an overview of metabolomics workflows, analytical platforms, data processing strategies, quality control procedures, and challenges associated with metabolomic studies.
The workshop will open with a workshop by Prof. Thomas Moritz and will close his lecture on the role of metabolomics in studying biological systems, highlighting his journey in the field of metabolomics. Additional lectures will cover LC-MS-based metabolomics, clinical lipidomics, and applications in plant and food sciences.
A special practical session at the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia will introduce participants to the application of metabolomics in grapevine production and water-stress evaluation. Industry experts will also present advanced analytical instrumentation, including QTof platforms and DESI imaging technologies for spatial metabolomics.
The final day is dedicated to intensive hands-on training, focusing on clinical metabolomics methodologies, experimental design, quality control, data preprocessing, LC-MS data analysis, and mass spectrometry data processing. These sessions are specifically designed to strengthen participants’ ability to conduct and interpret metabolomics experiments independently.
By bringing together experts and trainees from diverse scientific backgrounds, the workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn state-of-the-art metabolomics methodologies, exchange knowledge, and establish new research collaborations. The program is especially suitable for post-graduate students, early-career researchers, and professionals interested in applying metabolomics to biomedical, agricultural, food, and environmental research.
