The 1st Summer School “Metabolic Response of Horticultural Plants to Stress Factors” officially started today, on Sunday, 14 June 2026, at the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana.
Organized within the ERA Chair Foodomics project, the summer school brings together PhD students and early-stage researchers from the fields of horticulture, agronomy, biology, biotechnology, food science, and related life sciences. The program focuses on plant metabolomics and physiological responses to environmental stress factors, with an emphasis on both fundamental understanding and practical applications.
The opening day successfully welcomed participants from various countries, marking the beginning of an intensive week of lectures, laboratory work, and hands-on experiments.
During the program, participants will gain experience in advanced analytical techniques such as HPLC, LC-HRMS, and GC-MS, as well as in plant phenotyping and physiological measurements. A key part of the training includes experimental work on salinity stress in basil and drought stress in blueberries, enabling participants to connect theoretical knowledge with real experimental systems.
Beyond the scientific training, the summer school also provides valuable opportunities for international networking, collaboration, and exchange of knowledge among young researchers and experts.
The program runs until 20 June 2026, combining lectures, practical sessions, data analysis, and final group presentations, culminating in a field visit to an experimental orchard showcasing innovative agricultural technologies.
The summer school is free of charge, supported by the ERA Chair Foodomics project, and reflects the project’s commitment to strengthening research excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration in plant sciences.
