It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to Prof. Dr. Urška Vrhovšek, an acclaimed scientist, full professor, and senior research counsellor, whose work has left an indelible mark on both the Slovenian and international scientific communities.
Prof. Dr. Urška Vrhovšek dedicated her academic career to the advancement of agri-food sciences. Following her graduation from the Biotechnical Faculty at the University of Ljubljana, she obtained her doctorate from the renowned University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna. Her exceptional research path soon took her abroad, where she successfully led the metabolomics platform at the prestigious Edmund Mach Foundation in Trentino for many years. She brought her wealth of knowledge, invaluable experience, and vision back to Slovenia with equal dedication, taking over the leadership of the Center for Metabolomics at her alma mater, the Biotechnical Faculty, as part of the ERA Chair Foodomics project.
As a leading expert in the field of food metabolomics, her innovative research tirelessly pushed the boundaries of science. Alongside her many scientific achievements, she remained a dedicated and inspiring mentor, guiding and encouraging numerous generations of students and younger colleagues. Her contribution to the establishment and recognition of Slovenian science worldwide will remain a lasting example for generations to come.
