Summer School “Metabolic Response of Horticultural Plants to Stress Factors\,” designed for PhD students and early-stage researchers working in the fields of horticulture\, agronomy\, biology\, biotechnology\, food science\, and related life sciences. \nThe program offers 3 ECTS credits and provides intensive training in plant metabolomics\, with a focus on the physiological responses of plants to environmental stress factors and crop quality. \nOrganized within the ERA Chair Foodomics project\, the summer school brings together experts in horticulture\, plant physiology\, metabolomics\, analytical chemistry\, and data interpretation. \nThe program includes:\n\n\nHands-on training in plant metabolomics \n\n\nFamiliarization with advanced analytical techniques (HPLC\, LC-HRMS\, GC-MS) \n\n\nInvestigation of the effects of salinity on basil and drought stress on blueberries \n\n\nThe preparation and interpretation of complex metabolomic data \n\n\nEarning 3 ECTS credits \n\n\nOpportunities for international networking and collaboration with researchers and fellow PhD students \n\n\n  \nApplications are now closed. \nSelected candidates will be contacted for further information\, while the rest will be placed on a waiting list. \n  \nThe summer school is free of charge (including lunch)\, as it is funded by the ERA Chair Foodomics project. \nContact person for any inquiries: jerneja.jakopic@bf.uni-lj.si

SUMMARY:The European Researchers' Night
DESCRIPTION:Assessment of the Authenticity and Quality of Rosemary and Bay Laurel Essential Oils in the Slovenian Market \n \nAs part of the project Era Chair – Foodomics (Horizon Europe\, GA-101186975 )\, we are investigating the authenticity and quality of rosemary and bay laurel essential oils available on the Slovenian market. Using antioxidant assays\, we analyzed samples of essential oils and assessed differences between them. By measuring the stable carbon isotope ratios\, we examined potential adulteration in the oils. Our analysis identified possible cases of adulteration or the addition of other essential oils. This research supports producers and regulators in ensuring that label claims (e.g.\, “100% pure essential oil”) are accurate\, thereby protecting consumers from misleading products. \n \n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:The Department of Food Science of the Faculty of Biotechnology\, University of Ljubljana is organizing the traditional 32nd Bitenč Food Days with the title What will we eat tomorrow – food in sustainable food systems. Prominent experts will present the areas of modern technologies of food production\, processing\, preservation\, packaging and storage\, with an emphasis on sustainable food systems. This year marks 50 years since the organization of the first event\, whose fundamental mission is to familiarize graduates and doctoral students in food science and other experts who are professionally involved in food science and nutrition with the most current scientific findings and achievements in the mentioned field. \nFranc Bitenč was a Slovenian professor and expert in the field of food science. After his passing\, the “Food Days” event was renamed to “Bitenc Food Days” (BŽD) in his honor\, recognizing his significant contribution to the development of food science in Slovenia. \nThe Department of Food Science and Technology at the Biotechnical Faculty\, University of Ljubljana\, is organizing the traditional 32nd Bitenc Food Days under the title “What Will We Eat Tomorrow – Food in Sustainable Food Systems.” \nDistinguished experts will present key areas of modern food production\, processing\, preservation\, packaging\, and storage technologies\, with a special focus on sustainable food systems. \nThis year marks the 50th anniversary of the first event\, whose core mission has been to inform graduates\, doctoral students\, and other professionals in the fields of food science and nutrition about the most current scientific findings and advancements in this area. \n
